•Three types of meta-synthesis (Finfgeld, 2003) – Theory building: Pushes the level of theorising beyond that which can be achieved in a single study – Theory explication: Reconceptualises abstract phenomena – Descriptive: Comprehensively analyses phenomena

This paper describes different methods of conducting meta-synthesis and provides an overview of selected common methods. The paper also emphasizes the challenges and opportunities associated with conducting meta-synthesis and highlights the importance of meta-synthesis in informing practice, policy and research. The meta synthesis process employed in this study followed that done by Walsh and Downe (2005 ) (21 ). Walsh and Downe de-veloped and proposed a seven-step ap-proach for the qualitative meta-synthesis: (1 ) framing a meta-synthesis exercise, (2 ) locating relevant papers, (3 ) deciding what to include, (4 ) appraising studies, (5 ) com- Discuss alternative approaches to integrating research evidence and advantages to using systematic methods Describe key decisions and steps in doing a meta-analysis and metasynthesis Critique key aspects of a written systematic review Define new terms in the chapter Key Terms Effect size (ES) Forest plot Frequency effect size Intensity effect size… The use of the term meta-synthesis to describe any synthesis of qualitative research has been criticised on the grounds that it is not specific to qualitative research, and is frequently technically incorrect, since what is being attempted is not at the meta-level of the synthesis but at the meta-level of the included studies (Mary Dixon-Woods, personal communication).

We also provide consultancy services to education and industry. Meta-synthesis as a research approach attempts to interpretatively integrate results from different inter-related studies (Walsh & Downe 2005). As such, the research process for the paper proceeded from literature search conducted in the most cited game 2020-11-02 Meta-synthesis is a relatively new qualitative technique, used for amalgamation of qualitative studies for the purpose of exploring or developing a theoretical model that can explain findings of different studies on a similar topic.

Caregiving is associated with a range of physical and psychological symptoms. Caregivers bear the brunt of caregiving and this has become worse since the inception of de-institutionalisation, as more patients are discharged into the community under the care of their families. Meta-synthesis provides a needed model for conceptualizing a systematically derived research synthesis to guide development of individualized care interventions with predictable therapeutic Meta‐analysis, or quantitative synthesis, is the statistical combination of research findings. It can identify whether an intervention or approach, on balance, is effective or not, and can explain variation in findings by identifying patterns associated with larger or smaller effects across studies.
